Thanksgiving

Three years ago, I really planned out everything in great detail for Thanksgiving and blogged at it here.

Last year I wrote out my lists in one of my Everything Books and posted about it all later.
This year I started a new page in my book. I was glad though to have the old page to refer back to or else I'd have forgotten the cranberries completely! The list has been simplified over the years to just what's in the pictures above. I'm just waiting to hear who all is coming and to set the time for dinner accordingly. Once that is done, I'll be able to do a better timeline for the day itself.
If you've purchased a frozen turkey, you might want to check and see if you should start defrosting it today like I needed to. It takes several days for those big birds to thaw!
What are your holiday plans? I always love to learn what other people do!

Oh, Kim, thanks for the reminder to take my big bird out of the freezer today so he can begin to thaw. I love the way you've done your plans. If I ever get my journal book started (everything is in my basket ready to go!) I'll have to do the same. Maybe next year! You've inspired me to get going on it. Thanks for the push! ~Adrienne~

I love your background and I love your Everyday Book.

Our plans are to spend the day with our daughter and her husband and family. We're bringing chocolate creme pie, fruit salad, and homemade freshly-milled whole grain rolls with honey butter. Yummy!

I'm so thankful that my dd and her hubby and the baby are living close instead of why over in your area of the country!

Since it will be just the three of us again this year, I bought a turkey breast instead of an entire turkey.

I know the frugal thing to do was to buy a very inexpensive turkey and have lots of leftovers and make soup, etc. but this year I'm making everything very simple.

LOVE your Everything Book. :)

Have a very blessed Thanksgiving.

I like your Everyday Book... your writing is so pretty. I am working on putting together one for myself and plan to start using it in the new year. I am from Canada, so our Thanksgiving celebration is over but have a wonderful day with family!

I love your Everything Book. I haven't started one yet, although I keep wanting to...I'm just not sure how to "organize" it yet. Or is that the point? lol.

Since my FIL has so much trouble getting around anymore, I made the offer to MIL that we cook EVERYTHING and bring it down to their place. She was horrified. lol. She was always The Cook. As the year's have gone by, I have cooked more and more for the Holiday's and other big events, and have really enjoyed it. This year, MIL is going to cook the bird. And she emailed me this morning to tell me she had the cranberry sauce and green beans covered as well (I know why...my FIL only likes canned green beans and I will only cook fresh). Other than that...oh, and she also picked up two pies from Costco. Which is fine by us. She always has the whipped cream in the squirting can (gag) and my family loves Cool Whip (double gag) so we'll have both this year. I eat my pie n*ked. So, Shawn and I are going to make The Pioneer Woman's mashed potatoes; corn pudding; sweet potato casserole with mini marshmallows; lima beans in butter and half and half (my daughter and FIL's favorite); stuffing (or dressing...whichever you like to call it); gravy and who knows what else Shawn and I will toss together. I think MIL picked up some rolls but I'm bringing some yeast rolls down.

Shawn and I have already discussed getting a small turkey on Friday and roasting it on Saturday so he can take home some turkey meat and sides for sandwiches next week at school. He doesn't know that we're also going to have a dozen mini ham biscuits delivered to his dorm the following week for exam week.

That's it from here. I really need to search your blog for posts on your Everything Book to figure out how to get one started!

Hugs and blessings...

Susan

I love seeing your "journal" menu as I do pretty much the same except in file folders I keep from year to year...for me the turkey, am trying a new stuffing with herb, cornmeal, walnuts and cranberries, yams with coconut and pecans, a special raspberry congealed salad, cream cabbage and an attempt to copy the old "Bishops" Chocolate pie if you ever went to a Bishops Cafeteria...
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
