Last weekend my Mom watched the kids and Sweetheart and I headed to Boise.
It was wonderful.
I can't even recall the last night away we took, but I'm thinking it was...five years ago?  I guess I could probably figure it out from my archives, but whatever.  It's been a looong while.
We had so much fun.
We wandered all over downtown Boise.  Can I just say it is the cleanest, safest feeling downtown I have ever been in?  Ever.
We laughed, held hands, took pictures, and just relaxed together.
We even got good Chinese food for dinner.  I've missed that.  Who knew PF Chang's was in Boise?  It was all simply fantastic.  *sigh*  I want to go back next weekend.

First Fish



 Pumpkin caught his first fish yesterday!!

We all enjoyed our pizza dinner as they arrived just moments after I posted yesterday. 
Guess I'd better keep making extra pizzas to freeze for fishing days.  ;)

Just Hangin Around

Sweetheart hung these chairs from our big tree last week before our company came.  Too bad the weather was just awful.  Cupcake and I just sat here for a bit after her nap.  So nice and relaxing! 
Sweetheart and the boys are off fishing this afternoon.  Yesterday they went morel hunting.  Yum!

My Heart is Full

It is so wonderful to hold my sweet little girl. (Still needing a blog name for her.) She is so strong and healthy and, I must say, rather adorable. She is a calm, peaceful baby most of the time and she gives away the sweetest little gifts of smiles that show off the dimple on her left cheek.

She sleeps quite a lot it seems, but is doing well at night. In fact, with how poorly I sleep whilst pregnant being up with her through the night feedings isn't a big deal. Of course, some of this will definitely change tomorrow when Sweetheart goes back to work and I am unable to nap as desired. It will be interesting.

So, while we still no nothing more than we did when we moved in May about where we are headed and what Sweetheart's job situation will end up as, there is a peace from just knowing the baby is ok. It has been such a stressful process to me this waiting and wondering, but I am renewed now to continue on this path wherever it may lead us.

I just realized that this is the first time I have mentioned Sweetheart's job. Yes. So remember when I mentioned that there were other changes I wasn't at liberty to discuss here? This is one of them.

The week we were moving Sweetheart was notified that the company he works for was being bought out by its competitor. All the sudden we were left to wonder what all that would mean. Of course, it's the end of September and we are still waiting. A few people have been let go and the plan is to phase their software product into the competitor's product and eventually close the office. Most of the people working as support staff will be able to continue on with the new company and even work from home.

Sweetheart would love to work from home, however he is not support staff. He has indicated to them his desire to stay on and move into development, but we don't know what they will decide. So there you go. At least we don't have to worry about selling a house if he loses his job.

Alive & Cookin'

I've been so busy in the kitchen I haven't had time for writing. When I'm not cooking, I'm trying to spend as much time as I can out with the boys and friends. Our weather had been rather up and down here in Denver with a storm currently rolling in.

The cooler temperature is welcome today as I've been canning Tomato Sauce, Apple Cakes in Jars, & Apple Butter. I've also got a giant pot of Squash-Apple Soup simmering on the stove and a pork roast roasting along with the rest of the twelve pound Hubbard Squash in the oven. I've got the windows open so we don't roast as well!

Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely day at the Denver Zoo. I figured we had better go then while the weather was fine. We had a nice time visiting with all the animals.
This weekend Sweetheart & I disappeared to Berthoud, Colorado for our anniversary get away a few months late. We had a lovely room at the Berthoud Inn and the best dinner ever at the Retro Bistro. It is totally worth the drive for just the dinner! (Thanks Grandma! And stop by tomorrow for some soup and your milk, if you want.)

I used up a bunch of tomatoes on Sunday mixing them up with onions, roasted red peppers, carrots and a bunch of spices for a yummy soup. More tomatoes are ripening everyday. I think we'll end up using all 80 pounds up. I even have some tomatoes in the dehydrator right now. We'll see how those work out.

In fact, I was in the garden yesterday and found more tomatoes, carrots and another zucchini that had been hiding. I hope clean up the garden and prep in all for winter this week and weekend. I've got a list of chores to do outside both front & back.

I am not a big magazine person, but I do love "Victoria", and "MaryJane's Farm" magazines. I recently discovered "Hobby Farm Home" and hope to subscribe soon. We don't farm, but the ideas inside it are practical for us with the way we live and our gardening.

The current issue contains the recipe for Apple Cake in a Jar and a comprehensive list of ideas for shutting down the garden for winter while prepping for spring. It also has some fun homemade Christmas gift ideas and a tutorial for pie crusts. All sorts of things I love!

Well, enjoy your day! Time to go stir the soup.

Post-Op

Sweetheart is back at work today, the initial recovery from surgery complete. He's still looking at a six week period of healing. His pain is minimal at this time, but his concern is long-term. The surgery is one that only has a 50% chance of complete and total recovery. We are praying for that 50%. The alternatives are very unpleasant, painful and can continue to affect the rest of his life.

Will you continue to pray with us? These next few weeks are crucial. If scar tissue build up where the surgery was done he will be right back in the same miserable place he's been. We're praying that he will heal without scarring.

I've not said what the surgery was for as Sweetheart greatly values privacy. But one can still pray without all the details. Thank you.

Sweetheart Tea

Tea for two, just Sweetheart and me. And food, of course.

Cashew Chicken Salad Sandwiches, Tomato Provencal Sandwiches, Scones with Lemon and Raspberry Curds, Banana Bread, and Brownies. A mug of Earl Grey for him, a pot of Harney's Valentine Blend (Chocolate Rose) Tea for me. Lovely.

A wonderful hour together by the fireplace, gentle music in the background, made possible by two little boys napping.

The Last Rose of Summer

Yes, that's snow outside. We awakened on Sunday morning to snow. Pumpkin looked out his window and said, "Bugs!" as the flakes flew across the sky. He then spent the morning looking out the bay window watching the snow.

Here his is showing his Little People the snow. It melted off by afternoon and we've had beautiful Autumn weather ever since. I love Colorado.
