Just had someone drop in unexpectedly. Yes, this still happens a lot. He popped in to see Sweetheart as they met up shoveling out a neighbor yesterday.
He grew up here and was friends with the prior owners' kids who are all grandparents themselves now. He laughed and was struck with so many memories of times spent in here and lunches at the kitchen table. She must have fed every kid in the neighborhood at that table.
It is fun, in spite of the cracks, and peeling of ugly paint, to live in a home with a history and memories. And, Bonnie is right, it has a lot of character.
He told stories about the big winters in the 60's and 70's where the snow was passed the hood on the old Kenworth out in the pasture and how everyone used to ride their snowmobiles over all the fences because the snow went right over it all. It leaves me personally thankful for global warming.
Great story...a house with happy memories. It's lucky to have your family as its new caretakers. :)
