I did the Market on Saturday as usual. I didn't realize that it was the last "official" Market. Apparently, everyone still shows up, but the Market Staff! Odd. It means that we don't have to pay a fee which is nice. Some people stay until the snow flies. I don't plan to be one of them. I'll probably last until the weekend after the first frost. That will end the produce anyway.
Apparently there are less customers as tourism really drops off there after Labor Day. I'll just be playing it by ear and seeing how it goes. Most of my customers were tourists.
I have enjoyed the time overall and really enjoyed earning some money. :) It's true. It has also been rather stressful to me and takes a lot of time. I know a lot more now and will be better prepared for next season.
We've been talking about some of the craft show and Christmas sales in other towns nearby. I think I'd like to do a few of them and see how it goes. I have a lot of stuff that (I think) makes nice gifts. And, I can do more in advance and not spend all of my Fridays picking and washing produce!
I took some pictures of the booth this weekend, too. I had picked up a bunch of burlap in different colors to make tablecloths for Autumn. I didn't realize how impossible burlap is to iron! I also have a bunch of chocolate colored burlap to add in and some extra bunting got sown up that day I hid at home. ;)
Next week, I should be able to add corn for sale and have some more veggies. It was a kind of in between week in the garden.
So, that was Saturday...On Sunday, we had planned to have my Mom watch the kiddos while Sweetheart & I went camping overnight. We drove and drove and drove to our destination. We never found it. We continued on and changed destinations. No luck there. Sigh. We ended up in a complete loop getting nowhere. We followed signs as much as roads were marked, but no luck. (I talked to a friend earlier and she said they had tried finding that same lake once and never did either.)
We decided we'd just camp closer to home, up in the forest behind us. Uh, nope. All full. Completely.
Would you believe we ended up in our own backyard? Our first night away in years and we can't get away! We ended up making some tea, poured some wine, turned on the twinkle lights and hung out in the hammocks. The kids didn't know we were out there, so it worked.
We pitched the tent and just relaxed. It was a beautiful evening anyway.
We ended up out on the hammocks in the middle of the night as the ground was just too hard for these old bones. Ever try to get in a hammock in a sleeping bag at 2:30 in the morning? It's pretty funny. It is also noisy out there! Between cows, dogs, crickets, ducks, roosters and squirrels, it's something else!
When we got up in the morning, we went into town and had breakfast out together, just the two of us. It was so nice to have a quiet, uninterrupted meal! And I didn't have to cook it. We toodled around for awhile and then headed home. While it didn't all go the way I had hoped, it was wonderful to just have time just the two of us. Thanks, Mom!

I have always said that people who say the country is quiet never lived in the country. Nature is SO loud at night! :)
Stephanie called yesterday while on her way to a town in Cape Cod. They are spending a week there, the cabin is free as it belongs to friends so their food and gas is all they have to pay for.
J. watched the kids in the afternoon so she could have some free time. She also was driving and driving much more than planned but she eventually found her destination.
Then she had a lovely surprise of finding a tea room there! With our favorite "sold by tea rooms only" tea and delicious scones.
Sigh... imagine the ocean and a tea room and then doing a little early Christmas shopping in quaint Cape Cod stores.
She almost turned around and would if the kids had been with her. They start homeschooling on Monday.
