Help Wanted

For the Farmers Market last weekend I made these hand-painted signs to sell.

None did.
*sigh*
I liked them.

Sweetheart said he figured I painted them for us anyway. I said I make things I like so that in case they don't sell, I can use them. :) However, six of these signs is more than even I need.

Here's where I need the help: what should I price them at??? They are 2 to 3 feet long, 6" to 1 foot wide. Sweetheart dug the wood out of the old Homestead for me. I sanded, drilled and hand-painted them. They are on bailing wire hangers with ribbon, lace and/or burlap accents.

Another thought:  if I sold them online, would there be any takers from you all?  I am thinking of either pay pal direct on the blog, or an etsy thing.  Thoughts?  I don't want to turn my blog into a store, so I am considering what to do.

I'm surprised that you didn't have any takers....do you think that people didn't realize they were for sale?
Pricing is always difficult....one price here in the NE might be too stiff for the Midwest. Not sure what to tell you!
I don't think it's a terrible thing to sell them thru your blog....I'd also be interested in your balms/jams etc.!!

I like them. I think they would make good Christmas presents.

I think they are lovely Kimberley - I would have bought one of them! I am facing the same dilemma of pricing. Don't price them too low to start off with, you can always adjust the price down. Ask yourself what you would be prepared to pay for them. Check out what others in your region are charging for similar items. I started off pricing some of my cake stands too low. I later realized I had sold one made up of rare vintage plates. The second one made of the same plates I asked $20 more for. It still sold. It was just a matter of time. Some people walk away when they see the price tag. Others don't even blink. Maybe you can have information on the tag that describes the origin of the piece of wood the sign has been made from. Not just scrap - but a part of history. I would love to think I had part of an old homestead hanging on my wall - upcycling appeals to a lot of people. Do you have a facebook page for your little business? I have found that to be my best form of advertizing. People are now coming to find me at the markets after hearing about my little business on facebook. I believe that could be better than using your blog as it may reach more people - not everyone has a blog but lots of people are on facebook. I use my page to showcase my creations and let people know which markets I will be at. I don't yet sell over the internet. It means extra time going to the post office and packaging which is for fragile items. On the weekend I hired out my china for a tea party. I helped the caterer set up. It was easier than doing a market and I was paid for doing something I love - setting a table! This opportunity came about because of being on facebook. I hope you continue to keep on doing your stall - you have lovely products. Christmas is coming too. I think you will find your signs and other items might begin to sell in October/November. I have had people say they now know what they will be buying as gifts for this year. They are not starting to spend just yet. I'm still learning and working this selling at markets business all out. Hope this has helped in some way! I wish you well.

I love them. I think people are just turning thier minds toward fall and that they will sell. They are lovely! I have no idea what to price them at though! If I hadn't just blogged about reducing our posessions, I would buy one. :)
