Classic
Today is Day 31. I did it! I am happy with myself and happy to have discovered some new things. Today is the day to reintroduce some dairy. I have been looking forward to this day and some milk in my coffee. The goodness of milk in my coffee after only black coffee for a month had reached almost epic proportions in my mind. Still no sugar, mind you, but it was gonna be great!
I was up early and walked just a few miles so I'd be back before the folks got here to bale the hay. I then ground my coffee and loaded up the percolator. Finally, it was ready and I poured in a generous amount of milk.
Guess what? It was awful. Seriously. I took another drink and found it totally bitter. I came back inside and tasted a sip of the milk plain. Ah. The milk had soured. Not good.
I waited another hour--still no baler--and drove over to Buttercup's for a fresh gallon. I skimmed the cream off so I can make some ice cream this afternoon. And I warmed my pot of coffee. I've poured a new mug and added the milk.
Probably nothing short of a venti caramel macchiato from Starbucks would have risen to my expectations, but really? It's just not that good. The milk is fine, but I think my tastes have changed. Odd.
So, the plan now is to test some of the foods that have been on the skip list for the last 30 days. Today is a few servings of dairy in different forms, hence the ice cream, but everything else still like I've been eating. Over the next 10 days I will add in some items for a day and just see what happens. From there, I will just have to see what happens and what I want to include back.
I've been surprised at what I do not miss. I think I'd be happy to just keep going like this, but add back in a few things like some honey and some of that yummy corn we're growing. Dark chocolate is also missed, and milk in my coffee had been until now.
It's been nice to see some other results that are harder to measure, but I do plan to get on a scale next time I'm in town when the health clinic is open and see what happened there. I'll also redo my measurements to see what I've lost. My clothes all fit much better which is nice.
It's funny, I've been walking so much since March and generally being so much more active, but I saw better results physically in the last thirty days than in the last four months of all the exercising.
I am a bit bummed about the coffee though. Then again, maybe not. :)

It's pretty crazy how your tastebuds change. We are always having to stop and think about how our guests my taste the foods we think are normal. More than once I've seen a visiting kid screw up their face in horror over something we think is delicious. :) So interesting how you lost your taste for milk! I was off dairy for quite awhile, but I'm back on now and I love it so much. But mostly I'm just happy with clean, whole foods. Give me a bowl of berries over a bowl of chocolate cake any day.
Can't wait to see how this goes for you and what changes you make or don't make.
I did enjoy the ice cream I made for dessert last night. ;) The cheese at lunch was fine, but...meh.
I will admit to making a face when I saw your cauliflower breakfast. :)
