WOOHOOO!!!!

Up to the Hay Loft
Once we discovered where #6 was hiding out and failed at catching her this afternoon we changed tactics.  I checked to see where she was when I came in from milking so we could easily find her later.  Under cover of nightfall, we walked out to the homestead house and Sweetheart just scooped her right up.  She pecked at him the whole way to the barn.  (Well, until he flipped her upside down.)

We opened up the pen and slipped her in.  All the other girls were already roosting for the night, but made some noises.  We'll see what the morning brings.

As we walked back  to the house, we both commented on how easy that was.  Amazingly so, especially when compared to the escapades- of the- last week.  She's been loose for nine days.  I figured she was a goner.  Now, to just get her and her friends to lay some eggs!

Keep those name ideas coming...

PS--Check THIS out!!!  BIG smile!  Can't you just see it in the 4th of July Parade this summer?

PPS--And go visit the Homestead Barn Hop...

Congrats - I'm glad you got her home safely. And just think, now you can add "professional chicken wrangler" to your resume! :)

Ha! Glad you caught her. Reminds me of when two teachers tried switching roosters at work. One got away. Our job corps center is in the middle of the forest. For weeks she was teased. The students would hear the rooster in the mornings. People were puting out sighting reports using the roosters from cereal boxes and Foghorn Leghorn. Somebody brought her chicken bones from the kitchen. There was even a catch the chicken chase when he was spotted on the softball field. Finally after 3 weeks of evasion and poor Shelby taking quite the ribbing he was caught. What a hoot. Nothing better than a chicken chase.

Hi,

You have a lovely blog. I'm new to the *conversation*, and perhaps someone has already mentioned this... one of the things we've done to encourage our chickens to lay again is to put some cayenne pepper in their drinking water. We also sometimes find that giving them some grit is helpful. Another thing we were told at a living history museum was that it is good to feed them their egg shells. But we were cautioned to bake the shells first and then crush them. They are baked so that the hens do not develop a taste for eggs:) Hope that helps:)

Blessings,

Sherry
