Tea on the Veranda

After posting the scone recipe below, I did bake us a batch of scones. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, I was able to cut out a dozen scones. I sprinkled them with some Lavender Violet Vanilla Bean Sugarbefore I baked them. Unfortunately...I used 1 Tbl of baking soda instead of baking powder. Um...yuck!! We each had one while I was trying to figure out what was wrong, but then I tossed the rest. *sigh* The strawberries and lemon curd were delicious though!

I decided to take a few pictures once I saw that Gracious Hospitality was requesting "Creative Afternoon Tea Table Settings". I figured this was somewhat creative as I usually break out the fancier dishes, cloth napkins and the like for Afternoon Tea. Today was our everyday plates, paper napkins and tea in mugs. Also, the settings usually do not include tractors.

However, since it was just "me and the boys" I figured I'd not make it too fancy. Sweetheart came from the garage where he was working to join us. He was happy the dress code was relaxed. :)

Pumpkin enjoyed eating and rocking on the porch.

My next project will be to paint all the porch furniture and sew some cushions for the rockers and the settee. I'd like to get this done before the roses blooms so I can have a beautiful rose tea. I really want to make the berry soup in teacups that was featured in this month's "Victoria" magazine and I think a tea in honor of "The Blooming of the Roses" on the porch would be just delightful!

Care to join me?

Glimpses at past Tea Time Tables so you can see that I can set a proper table!

I would love to join you for your Roses Tea! And. . .I think your porch furniture is beautiful just the way it is (vintage chic), so if you don't get it done in time, don't fret! Thank you for sharing your afternoon tea today with us. How I miss those 'trucks on the table' days! Cherish them, love them, and embrace them! My little boys are all grown up (but still enjoy a tea party with mom!).

Tea on the veranda how nice. I loved that little truck on your table too. It reminded me of the days when my sons were little. One time I decided to make Gingerbread Men for Christmas but I accidently picked up a recipe for ornaments. My husband and son's waited patiently for them to cook only to find out they couldn't bite into them LOL They have never let me forget it to this day.

I loved your casual tea with tractors on the table. What precious memories those will be someday. My son is 19 now and I miss the younger days... Thanks for sharing. PS At least the scones looked pretty!

I loved the pictures of your precious family tea party! What's better than sippy cups and dump trucks! You're teaching pumpkin to enjoy the finer things in life even while he is still very little. When my daughter was little we used to "window shop" in the San Francisco Music Box Store (teaching her to look but not touch and enjoy the pretties) and Victoria's Secret perfume counter (smelling all the pretty lotions). Strangers were always amazed at how good she was. It was a very special treat, and she has grown up loving beauty, both man made, and God created. Thank you so much for sharing!!

What a lovely afternoon tea! I think it's great how you included your guys for this one. Fun!

Looks like lots of fun and makes me feel guilty because my two little girls (4 & 5) have been asking to have a "tea party". Guess I need to get busy and just do it. :-)

Yes you certainly can put out a spread and I loved it. But the top tea party stole my heart.

How divine! Tea parties are the best, and I think you probably do the set up better than anyone. I absolutely adore the teapot flower pot. ;)

A roses tea would be lovely on the porch, but your tea was very proper indeed and it looks as if the boys enjoyed it immensely!

Hi Kimberly,
It looks like both your teas were wonderful and what darling boys you have :)
In the last photo there are some sandwiches that have tomatoes on top. The look so delicious, what kind are they?

I want tea on the front porch.....any porch...of course the scones are a must. Do you put your clotted cream on first or the jam first??

I put the clotted cream on first and then the jam....I like to see the gorgeous color of the jam!!
