Our weather has taken a turn this week.  Cold mornings mean more to me than they used to.  In the ancient past, it meant scraping windows to drive across the city to go teach school.  In the not-so-distant-past it meant just staying in with the kids and playing.  Now, it means frozen stock tanks, crazy cold milk-covered hands and hunkering down close to Buttercup to warm up while milking.

The day started at 5:30.  I milked Buttercup and tested her for mastitis.  The test was a positive in one of her quarters.  I called the vet and picked up some medicine for her.  This means I had to stuff a syringe into her teat and infuse the meds into her udder.  Lovely.  It also means that I will be hand milking for the foreseeable future. Outside::: Good morning, Amelia! I love the blue of the chicory.  Must dig up some and try to roast the roots for coffee.  I've read about it.  Anyone else doing it? Rusty stuff:  we've got lots of it! Inside:::  Milling wheat for the day's baking.  Goat's milk from Bella and eggs from the Ladies.  A favorite cookbook.  A lovely breakfast we enjoy year round by just changing the fruit.

Cherries! And lots of them. Too bad they're up there. That arching tree BEHIND the other trees and in the thorny thicket is the cherry tree. That thicket is a pain. I found this bottle in the basement here.  I love their slogan.  The poppies matched and so brighten up our kitchen.  Do you have poppies, but they die the instant you cut them?  Here's a tip:  cut the stems and then run the cut edge over a flame for a few seconds, then put them in your water.  They will last several days that way! A rainy morning is a bit welcome.  It means I can stay inside and make granola and whatever else and take a break from outdoor work.  There's lots to unpack and settle and clean.
