Books

Dear Friends,

I am looking for titles of books that have meant a lot to you in your life, specifically those that may have helped you in your walk with Christ. Maybe it is a devotional, or a biography, or just a book someone further along on the journey has written. More than just a light reading that makes one feel good, I am looking for something that has spurred you on to grow closer to, and more like Him. Please share!
With kindest regards,
Kimberly

  2. Without a doubt the very best book aside from God's own word is Bob Sorge's book, The Secrets of the Secret Place. Phenomenal! easy to read, and life changing.Another of his books, In His Face is really good also.

  3. Joanna Weaver's "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" and "Having a Mary Spirit" are both excellent, funny in spots, and thought provoking.

  4. My books are still packed from our recent move, so I can't title browse, but one jumped into my mind and that is No Compromise by Melody Green. It's a biography of Keith Green.

I've haven't left a comment for you before, but had to answer your question. The most life-changing book I've read in a long time is "Stepping Heavenward" by Elizabeth Prentiss. She is the author of the hymn "More Love to Thee O Christ".

  8. I love Where God Begins To Be by Karen Karper. I checked it out from the library, but when I read it I knew it would be a book on my shelves! And now it is!

  12. How fun! I've enjoyed reading all of the responses.

I'd have to say my favorite is Tozer. I also love a Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot. Then there is Stepping Heavenword. I could go on and on. :):)

If you want to listen to some good messages, go to sermonindex.com and listen to the revival hymn and then ten sheckles and a shirt by Paris Reedhead.

    Blessings!

  13. Dearest Kimberly,

First let me apologize for my lack of commenting lately. I have been staying busy and haven't had much time for blogging.

You might like to read "The Power of a Praying Wife" by Stormie Omartian. It is wonderful and it was just what I was looking for as I try to be the help meet that my husband needs.

Thank you for always providing such lovely thoughts and ideas on your blog!

    Yours kindredly,
    Shan

Now that was fun! Thanks for such an interesting post. I would recommend The Pursuit of God ~ A. W. Tozer - you can read it for free online. Also Dallas Willard's Hearing God. And anything by Amy Carmichael and Andrew Murray(also free online)

  15. I'm surprised no one mentioned Mere Christianity by Lewis. It is one of our favorites. Also, Uncle Tom's Cabin is a story of faith and devotion in the midst of trying circumstances. And, as a first time reader I also have to say that we have a completely identical taste in movies. I own just about every one of the movies you have recommended, and watch them about every 6 weeks! I love the older Persuasion, and am reading the book right now. North and South is the best ever, and I'd love to see Richard Armitage cast in another costume drama. Also, are you watching Little Dorrit on PBS? It's been very good. Blessings!
